Megapixels vs. Image Quality
While megapixels determine the maximum size you can print an image without seeing pixels, they don't necessarily determine the "quality" of those pixels. Sensor size, lens clarity, and image processing algorithms play a massive role in mobile photography.
A 12MP photo printed at 300 DPI (dots per inch) will appear perfectly sharp up to approximately 10x14 inches. For billboard-sized prints, lower DPI is often used because the viewer is much further away.
